Flower Power and the Art of Slowing Down

After an ankle injury, I’ve been getting a lot of assistance in slowing down. My ankle is healing, but slowly and gently, reminding me of how I walk in this world, showing me that in the slowing down, there’s a really different sense of flow. There is a relaxing ease replacing my normal urgency to get things done. Things are still getting done but with far less effort on my part.  Thank you ankles for teaching me. And thank you flowers for continuing to remind me to take that extra moment to pause and inhale the sweetness of life.

 

 

A Revelation

I starting using the Hawaiian Flowers Body Oil while healing my ankle.  After initially working with some stronger essential oils I wanted something "less medicinal", something that would feel as good to my nerves and spirit as it did my ankle. Turns out it's been essential element in the healing process. After doing more research I discovered that most of the flowers in this formula are not only aromatically healing for the skin, spirit, and emotions, but have also been used traditionally & in many cultures to alleviate pain as well as heal various wounds including sprains. Well of course they have. I am so glad I trusted my body know intuitively everything it's needed to heal, provided I slow down long enough to listen.

Hawaiian Flowers Body Oil - Key Flower Oils and Their Benefits

Plumeria (frangipani) : a beautiful flowering bush whose fragrance is emitted stronger at night. Aromatically its heavenly sweet aroma is rejuvenating and refreshing. Used historically to heighten awareness and harmonize the aspects of self, Plumeria is useful for creating and sustaining a sense of inner beauty, confidence, and grace. Its capacity to bear flowers and leaves even after it has been taken from the ground is a testament to its healing capacity in both the physical and spiritual realms, and the reason it is known as the "Tree of Life" in India. Frangipani has traditionally been used to alleviate the symptoms of such illnesses as depression, dry skin, sprains, and heart disease. It has superior antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and astringent properties making it invaluable for skin care. In addition to being beneficial for hypersensitive skin frangipani helps to renew skin cells, soothe and soften dry, cracked skin, and providesprotection against UV radiation. Frangipani is also known to soothe and relax both muscles and nerves.

Gardenia

Gardenia : sweet, fresh, green and a little earthy, this beautiful, white flower has the power to uplift the spirit, calm the mind, increase joy, and enhance sensuality. Gardenia is calming, soothing, anti-inflammatory, sedative, antibacterial, antioxidant, aphrodisiac and is also considered an analgesic and detoxifier. Gardenia's uses include cleansing and clarifying both body and mind. It moisturizes and protects the skin and can reduce scarring as well as hyper-pigmentation. Gardenia is also useful for clearing away heat (inflammation) thereby reducing swelling. It can move stagnant blood that has congealed in one place, especially following trauma. And has been helpful for healing injuries to the muscles, joints, and tendons. Gardenia is also a hemostatic (can stop blood flow) and is often used to treat infections.

 

Jasmine Sambac : another sweet, night blooming, and intoxicating aroma. Did you know? Breathing in the scent of jasmine has the power to release feel-good brain chemicals that boost energy as well as reduce anxiety, according to a study done by the Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation in Chicago. Jasmine is antispasmodic, antibacterial and antioxidant. Jasmine is useful for muscle pain, stiffness, and sprains. Historically this potent little flower has even been used as a uterine tonic most likely for both its pain-relieving properties and its euphoric and restorative aroma. Its antioxidants bolster the skins immune functioning and help protect from free radical attack. Jasmine can increase skin elasticity and balance moisture making it a natural choice to restore aging and damaged skin. It is also known to fade scars caused by acne, skin wounds, eruptions, and stretch marks.

Hawaiian Sandalwood : used traditionally to soften and soothe aging skin. It is antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, astringent, disinfectant, emollient, sedative, and all around general tonic.
